Springfully

I've been in radio silence a while. Busy, tired, winter, etc.

It's gorgeous here. The flowers and leaves are coming out... probably too early. We'll probably have a chilly and snowy April, but that's okay. I hope to take more pictures soon, and plant some cold weather pansies. That's the only flower I trust before Mother's Day!

Great idea for broken lights

Ace Hardware is collecting broken Christmas lights for recycling. They strip the copper out and sell it for a children's charity. Last year they made $14,000 for the charity!

I dropped a bag full of our broken twinklies, and the collection box was right up front.

Here's more information on the charity: http://www.lightsforlifeinc.com/

Very cool.

My favorite chair in the world

My mother-in-law had a chair from her step-grandfather in her house that I fell in love with the moment I saw it. A couple of years ago when she moved to an assisted living center, she gave it to us.

It's a Morris chair from the early 20th century. I love the carved lions and the claw feet. It has new upholstery, because the old was tattered, but that doesn't detract from it at all for me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.

I always loved this hymn, a holdover from my church upbringing. Thanksgiving is a special holiday to me, and it's one I appreciate. I hate that it gets buried in the ever-lengthening run up to Christmas.

It's so important to stop, breathe, and give thanks.

Lovely cashmere

My aunt sent me this lovely cashmere jacket. It is sooooo soft. The pictures don't do it justice. It's like a blazer. I want to wear it, but I dread risking dirt or stains! I will have to be careful.
